Ali & Brandon's Elegant Vermont Wedding // Woodstock Inn
How did you meet?
We met through a mutual friend. Brandon asked that friend about me and she told me Brandon wanted to go on a date with me despite that fact he said not to. At first, I said I was not interested but we randomly ended up talking at a bar a few weeks later and the rest was history!
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
We wanted our wedding to be romantic and reflect our love of the outdoors. We loved the garden setting and wanted to incorporate a lot of greenery . Our wedding was not religious, but our reading during the ceremony was written by a poet that Brandon loves.
How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
Our florist, Debbie, was amazing and contributed a lot to the actual design after many conversations about what we were going for. Most everything else was DIY (we made the photo booth and the drink signs) and we had ALOT of help from our talented friends and family (the invitations, seating name tags, welcome sign, and bathroom signs etc. were all made by friends and family!).
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
The shot ski as the “guest book” was our big personalized item. We’re both big winter sports people and so it just seemed right! Also, a very small detail but the signature drinks were named after our cat and Brandon’s favorite football player.
Let's talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.
As with the rest of the wedding we wanted to be minimalist, elegant, but not too formal. We thought navy suits would be most fitting but we took the formality down a little with sage and white floral ties. As for the bridesmaids, we thought that if the girls wore the same color light gray, but all different styles, it would achieve the same goal of being elegant but not too formal.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
The first look and reading our vows!
If you had a first look before the ceremony, share about that experience and why you decided to do a first look.
We decided to do a first look for two main reasons: 1. We wanted to enjoy the cocktail hour with our friends and family so we did photos before the ceremony. 2. We thought of the first time we saw each other as a special and private moment so it only made sense!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you'd like to share with other couples planning their day?
It’s okay to ask for help when you need it! It’s too much planning for two people. And also, don’t forget to just have fun on the wedding day.
