Matthew & Katie's Mesa Arizona Wedding at The Landmark
Matthew and Katie got married last month at the gorgeous Landmark, which is a modernized venue in an historical building built in the 1920s located in Mesa, Arizona. It was an exquisite and emotional wedding (especially since it was my big brother getting married)!
Getting ready
Matthew got ready in the sports-themed room at the venue with his 3 groomsmen, Andrew (my brother) Allan (my husband) and his friend, Jason, and the atmosphere was so relaxed. They were playing cards and, as they often do, making jokes. Katie got ready with her mom, sister and 2 best friends in a beautiful all white room with lots of lights and mirrors. It was nice to have such a large room for the girls to get ready in and a separate room for the guys right at the venue.
The ceremony
The ceremony was a lovely outdoor service on the venue grounds. One of the highlights was when Katie's best friend’s three boys walked down the aisle as the ring bearers and the youngest lost his shoe at the end of the aisle. He had everyone laughing. Katie walked down the aisle to an instrumental of Taylor Swift’s "Love Story" played on keyboard by a friend. She and Katie had planned that years ago and they almost thought it wouldn’t happen, but fortunately, they were able to borrow a keyboard and that dream became a reality. It was so sweet and the fact that Katie is such a huge fan of Taylor makes me love her even more! Matthew tried to hold back the tears as he saw his beautiful bride walking down the aisle with her dad…and that's about the time I lost it. I couldn't hold back the tears, but I still managed to capture the moment. During the ceremony they had communion; it was a very special moment. Katie's best friend’s husband, Dave, officiated and he did an amazing job! Because he knew Matthew and Katie so well, there were many funny moments, inside jokes and personal stories.
The reception
The reception was inside at the venue. They chose The Landmark because they took care of so many of the details, and they fell in love with the look of the venue. The décor was simple, but elegant. I loved shooting at The Landmark because the building is stunning, modern and well kept. The staff there do an awesome job from decorating to keeping everything on schedule. I would absolutely love the opportunity to work with them again. Especially since I would be able to visit with my brother and new sister!
Katie and Matthew’s signature drink was called the Bumble because that is the name of the site where they met. The meal was an absolutely delicious roast dinner. My husband, Allan and my brother share a love of board games. Allan started off the speeches with a hilarious, but wise speech containing a lot of board games references. Then Matron of honor, Sondra (Katies’s best friend) gave some amazing advice to Matthew and Katie…including the fact that he should definitely gift her, Katie and Kimmy some Taylor Swift tickets. Katie's sister and Maid of Honor, Kimmy was very emotional as she told Katie how much she meant to her and welcomed Matthew to the family. Kimmy also told Matthew that “flowers say ‘I’m sorry,’ but Taylor Swift tickets say ‘I learned my lesson’”. After some dancing and fun “how well do Katie and Matthew know each other” games, they finished off the evening with sparklers.
Matthew and Katie’s wedding was beautiful, emotional, fun and everything I love about weddings! I am so happy for Matthew and Katie and I am especially honored that they asked me to capture their day!
Here’s a look at their gorgeous wedding. Enjoy!
