How to prepare for your lifestyle session
Lifestyle Newborn sessions are meant to showcase what your life looks like now with a new addition to your family. Here are some tips for how to prepare for our time together to ensure that your photos are ones you’ll cherish forever.
First off, let’s talk about wardrobe. Whites, neutrals, and earth tones make for beautiful light and airy gallery and help keep the focus on your family.
Baby - Babies typically look best wrapped in a blanket/swadle or wearing a tightly fitted outfit such as a gown or onesie. Caden Lane, Lou Lou & Company, and H&M, all have great options.
Mama - Dresses are a comfy postpartum friendly option, but a cozy sweater/top and jeans or leggings is also a great option for a causal homey vibe. Again, I recommend light, earth tone neutrals and suggest straying away from patterns. Remember, you’ll probably be hanging these photos in your home, so solid colors tend to look best. I encourage mama to get ready first! As mom’s, we often put everyone else before ourselves. I want you to feel your best during the session, so be sure to prioritize yourself!
Dad - A basic tee or henley is a great options for guys. Brown, tan, olive green cords, khakis, or linen pants are good options instead of jeans. Barefoot for the whole family gives the best homey-vibe.
House prep
Don’t worry about cleaning your whole house! You just had a baby, I do not expect your house to be spotless, trust me! Just a little tidying in the locations we will take photos in. Clear-off dressers, nightstands, floors, etc. before I arrive. One or two locations with great natural lighting is all we need to make some magic happen! You can send me photos of the rooms you’re considering so I can give you my input.
The best rooms are usually the nursery, a bedroom, or sometimes the couch. For the bedroom, it’s best if there is a white or light neutral bedspread, again, we want the focus on you and your beautiful family!
Baby Prep
A warm, cozy, baby is a happy baby, so please turn off the AC or turn up the heat a little before I arrive. A sleeping baby allows for a smooth session. So please try to avoid a nap right before I arrive. A stimulating bath 30 minutes before your session, followed by feeding baby right before I arrive is a great way to ensure a tired + happy baby for the photos.
Final tips
I highly suggest ironing/steaming clothes + laying them out the day before your session so it’s one less thing to worry about.
It might be a good idea to plan a quick and easy meal(s) to make that day in case you’re running short on time. I want everyone to be happy during the session, because I know personally, I can get hangry.
I’m so excited to photograph your growing family! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out! I’m always happy to help.
